Khmeluk, Vasyl

Vasyl Khmeluk was born in Berezivka, near Zhmeranka, Ukraine in 1903. Studied art in Prague in the Ukrainian Studios of Plastic Arts in 1920s. Thereafter moved to Paris. Painted landscapes, portraits and still life paintings. In 1936 – 1938 first personal exhibitions in Paris art gallery took place. Became well known in the 1940s. Organized personal exhibitions in Paris, London, New York. Retrospective exhibitions took place in Munich, New York and Geneva. Works by Khemluk are in permanent collections of Lviv Museum of Fine Art, Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris, Kunstmuseum Luzern, Museum of Contemporary Art in Stockholm. Khmeluk died in Paris in 1986.
